Los Angeles police officers were reportedly locked, loaded and on high alert for the premiere of Straight Outta Compton Monday night.
The red carpet event was held at the downtown entertainment complex L.A. Live, and security was tight, per the Hollywood Reporter.
L.A. Weekly reported earlier the LAPD was “beefing up its presence” for the premiere, and an on-site security staffer confirmed organizers called for “tripled security” for Monday’s event.
The film follows pioneering hip hop group NWA, which emerged from the streets of Compton, California in the mid-1980s, as they share their music and tales from the ‘hood.
Real-life subject of the rags-to-riches story Dr. Dre was in attendance, along with the other surviving group members–and his safety and comfort were of “paramount concern,” per an insider.
Metal detectors were reportedly located at all entrances and exits.
Straight Outta Compton opens nationwide on Friday, August 14.
