Sony has revealed its slate of movies through 2017, and if you like reboots, remakes, and sequels, you’re in for a treat.
Sony has scheduled not one, but two Bad Boys sequels, and according to Variety, it’s not even clear whether Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will be returning to the action franchise. Bad Boys 3 hits theaters February 17, 2017, while the fourth installment is scheduled for July 3, 2019.
Underworld 5, another sequel to the vampires vs. werewolves franchise starring Kate Beckinsale, is scheduled to hit theaters on October 21, 2016, while the sixth installment in the Resident Evil series is slated for January 27, 2017.
On the remake front, The Magnificent Seven re-do starring Chris Pratt, Matt Bomer and Denzel Washington will see a September 23 release date next year. The Magnificent Seven is, of course, a remake of the 1960 film of the same name starring Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson, which was, in turn, a Westernized remake of the 1954 Kurosawa classic Seven Samurai.
Also, in perhaps either the best or worst piece of film news in some time, the reboot of the beloved 1995 Robin Williams-starrer Jumanji has been scheduled for Christmas 2016.
The Ghostbusters remake also hits theaters next year, in July.
There are some bright spots; the Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence-led Passengers has a pretty intriguing sci-fi premise, and Money Monster looks pretty good, too.
