Ty Inc. has unveiled a special Cecil the Lion Beanie Baby plush toy to honor the Zimbabwean lion who was killed last month in a big game hunt.
The company says all proceeds from the sale of the special-edition Beanie Baby will go toward the University of Oxford’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit.
“Hopefully, this special Beanie Baby will raise awareness for animal conservation and give comfort to all saddened by the loss of Cecil,” company founder Ty Warner said in a statement.
The toy reportedly goes on sale in September, and will retail for $5.99.
The death of Cecil the Lion sparked outrage across the Internet last week when Walter James Palmer, a Minnesota dentist, confessed to killing the beloved Zimbabwean national icon on a big game hunt in early July.
More than 200,000 people have since signed a White House petition to extradite Palmer to Zimbabwe to face criminal poaching charges.
