Perennial Academy Award favorite Meryl Streep has a new gig – rock star.
The three-time Oscar-winner stars in next month’s Ricki and the Flash as Ricki Rendazzo, a “guitar heroine who gave up everything for her dream of rock-and-roll stardom, but is now returning home to make things right with her family,” according to the film’s official synopsis.
Now, Streep fans can get a chance to check out the actress’s guitar skills, as Entertainment Weekly premiered the first music video from the film on Friday:
The song is a straight-ahead, if somewhat generic, rock tune, a slightly surprising result given the pedigree of the musicians playing alongside Streep in the film: Rick Springfield, Parliament-Funkadelic keyboardist Bernie Worrell Jr., drummer Joe Vitale and the legendary Rick “The Bass Player” Rosas.
Check out the full video above. Ricki and the Flash and its soundtrack are due out August 7.
