On July 24, the day after John Russell Houser allegedly carried a gun into a Lafayette theater and killed two people, “Veep” star Timothy Simons posted a tweet which suggested the NRA was culpable and that they defend gun rights “atop the pile of dead citizens.”
Simons wrote: “I hope the NRA can hear the rapturous thanks for defending our rights from atop the pile of dead citizens for which they are responsible.”
This followed a July 23 tweet in which Simons wrote: “We have put the rights of people to carry guns ahead of the rights of people (and children) to live. We have the country we deserve.”
Ironically, far from putting “the rights of people to carry guns ahead” of anything, the Grand Theatre chain actually bans the possession of guns by anyone—including people with a concealed carry permit who carry for self-defense. As Breitbart News previously reported, Grand Theatre’s corporate “Conduct Policy” prohibits the “possession of firearms or weapons of any kind,” regardless of whether the firearm is carried “openly or concealed, with or without a permit.”
Someone informed Simons of the Grand’s gun-free policy on July 24, and he tweeted: “Some psychos, who I will not help by retweeting them, have told me that the theatre was a gun free zone, and that was the problem.” He then followed that by tweeting, “Which is to say, that everyone would have been fine if there were more people firing shots into a nearly pitch black room.”
