A former associate producer of the reality television series Deadliest Catch was found shot to death outside his home in Pasadena early Friday morning.

Joe McMahon, 25, was found outside his home in the Chapman Woods section of Pasadena shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, reports local ABC affiliate KABC.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were responding to a call of shots fired when they found McMahon suffering from gunshot wounds a short distance away from his home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the shooting is underway. Authorities told ABC they do not believe drugs or gang activity was a factor in the man’s death.

According to his IMDb page, McMahon served as an associate producer on Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch for nine episodes in 2013.

“We are heartsick about this tragedy,” Discovery said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to all that knew and worked with him.”
