A Thailand-based modeling agency is opening an office in Los Angeles, which will cater exclusively to transgender clients.
The Advocate reports Apple Model Management became the first agency in the world to represent transgender models in November 2014, and at some point this year, will open its doors at a location somewhere in the Los Angeles.
“Thailand has been hosting the famous ‘Miss International Queen’ transgender competition for contestants from all over the world for the past 10 years,” the company’s website reads, adding, “As a result, Apple Model Management has opened the first of its kind, full transgender model division.”
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the L.A. division currently represents six transgender women, and is looking to add more.
AMM L.A. agency director Cecilio Asuncion told The Advocate:
“Our strong commitment to developing them as successful models is never about quantifying or qualifying their gender… It’s never a question of if they are women or men, it’s about their passion and commitment to being the best possible models they can be.”
Current transgender models signed with AMM include Andreja Pejic and Lea T.
