Actress Demi Moore is asking for privacy after a 21-year-old man was found dead in the bottom of her Beverly Hills swimming pool over the weekend.
Law enforcement officials told TMZ Sunday a man drowned in the pool following a party at the home early Sunday morning, but Moore, 52, was not home during the event, nor were any members of her family.
The party was reportedly a small gathering of five or six people, and while police are still gathering facts and awaiting toxicology results, they have identified the victim as Edenilson Steven Valle of Los Angeles, CA.
“I am in absolute shock. I was out of the country traveling to meet my daughters for a birthday celebration when I got the devastating news,” Moore told PEOPLE in a statement after hearing the news.
Moore added, “The loss of a child is an unthinkable tragedy and my heart goes out to this young man’s family and friends. I ask that you please respect the privacy of all concerned during this sensitive time.”
A police source also told PEOPLE Valle is believed to have slipped into the pool overnight Saturday and was found the next morning, where a maid and five others were staying.
Moore’s assistant was also present when Valle’s body was discovered.
A resident of the upscale neighborhood said Moore’s three children with actor Bruce Willis had been throwing “parties every day, day and night” at the house for weeks, and some of the gatherings were for pool parties.
