Pitbull had some words of warning for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Thursday night: “Watch out for El Chapo!”
The rapper took aim at Trump while accepting the award for Best Urban Artist at the Premios Jeventud award show broadcast by Univision, which cut ties with the Trump-owned Miss America pageant after the candidate’s fiery campaign announcement speech last month.
Guzman escaped from a Mexican prison for a second time this week.
Pitbull name-checked several presidential candidates during his acceptance speech, but reserved criticism strictly for Trump:
“I want to tell him, look, I’m not a politician, I’m a musician, but most of all I’m Latino,” the platinum-selling artist told the crowd in Spanish. “For all the culture out there: Marco Rubio, step it up! Jeb Bush, step it up! Hillary Clinton, step it up, because Donald Trump cannot be president!”
Earlier this week, Pitbull told Fusion’s Jorge Ramos that he would no longer stay in Trump hotels.
“I wouldn’t be able to. I just can’t,” he told Ramos. “I can’t for the simple fact that you’re speaking to a culture that I ride, I die for. And this culture is the only reason I’m having this conversation right now.”
Trump is currently leading in national polls among all GOP presidential contenders.
