After his critically acclaimed drama Empire was snubbed by the Emmys, producer/director Lee Daniels went off on the Television Academy Thursday.

Following a successful first season on FOX, the hip-hop soap opera failed to secure a nomination for Outstanding Drama, and aside from Taraji P. Henson’s best lead actress in a drama series nomination, the show was more or less left off the ballot.

Appearing with Empire co-star Jussie Smollett in a video uploaded to Instagram Thursday, Daniels addressed the snub and appeared to have been ready to unload, using the tags, “#canfinallypostthis #timetoberealagain and #emmyniceguyoverwith.”

“Jussie’s saying I have to be politically correct on Instagram,” Daniels laughed, before shfting gears, “F–k these motherf–kers!”

Several hours later, Daniels again took to Instagram to explain he was joking in the first post and told his “haters” to “sit down.”
