The gun control fundraiser headlined by country singers Tim McGraw and Chase Bryant is coming up this Friday in Hartford, Connecticut.

Breitbart News previously reported that money from the show will go to Sandy Hook Promise, the group that opposed arming teachers for self-defense in Georgia in 2014, successfully pushed a new gun control bill in Oregon earlier this year, and which has maintained ongoing support for expanded background checks at the federal and state level since the heinous 2012 attack on Sandy Hook Elementary.

Ironically, background checks were already the law of the land when the Sandy Hook attack occurred, but Adam Lanza went around them by stealing the guns he used.

McGraw’s gun control fundraiser originally included Billy Currington, too, but he backed out amid the fan outrage that followed Breitbart News’ April 14 report on the concert. McGraw stayed on board for the fundraiser and even defended his involvement by telling viewers of MSNBC’s Morning Joe that following through for Sandy Hook Promise is an example of how he will “lead with [his] heart every time.”

Through this kind of decision making, McGraw also supported the campaign of gun control candidate Barack Obama in 2008. He told People Magazine:

It’s innate in me to be a blue-dog Democrat. I’m not saying I’m right or wrong, but that’s what I am. My wife and I and our family will do everything we can to support Obama. I like his ideas, I like his energy, and I like the statement he would make for our country to the world.
