Blur’s Damon Albarn Hauled Off Stage By Security after 5-Hour Performance

No one can say that Damon Albarn doesn’t go all-out for his fans.

The Blur and Gorillaz frontman was performing with his side project Africa Express at the Roskilde festival in Denmark Saturday night when he was literally carried off stage by a security guard as the set dragged into its fifth hour.

According to the BBC, it was 4:00 a.m. when a security guard stepped up to Albarn to inform him that his band had broken the venue’s curfew, by a long shot.

Albarn began singing the Clash’s “Should I Stay or Should I Go” in protest, urging the crowd to back him up.

“You want more, we’re going to give you more,” the singer can be heard telling the crowd in a video captured by an audience member.

But the frontman didn’t get the chance to perform any more songs after a security guard gave Albarn his jacket and then literally picked him up and carried him off the stage to end the show.

Africa Express reportedly brought out the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner and British soul singer Laura Mvula during Saturday night’s performance, which began at 11:00 p.m. local time.

Other headliners at the massive festival in Denmark included Sir Paul McCartney, Disclosure, Florence + the Machine, Kendrick Lamar, and Pharrell Williams.

Albarn will begin a world tour with Blur on July 17 at the Super Bock Super Rock festival in Portugal. The band plays Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 20 and New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Oct. 23.
