Actor Jim Carrey railed against a new California vaccination law on Tuesday and called Gov. Jerry Brown a “corporate fascist who must be stopped.”
Brown signed SB 277 on Tuesday morning. The legislation requires all children in California enrolling in public or private schools to receive vaccines. Parents had previously been able to opt out of inoculating their children due to personal or religious beliefs.
“California Gov says yes to poisoning more children with mercury and aluminum in mandatory vaccines. This corporate fascist must be stopped,” Carrey tweeted Tuesday.
Carrey has been vocal on opposing vaccination since his relationship with now ex-girlfriend Jenny McCarthy, who became a leader in the movement after she said her child developed autism after being vaccinated.
The Dumb and Dumber star said that he is “not anti-vaccine,” but rather “anti-thimerasol, anti-mercury.”
“The CDC can’t solve a problem they helped start,” he continued. “It’s too risky to admit they have been wrong about mercury/thimerasol They are corrupt.”
Brown’s signature of SB 277 came months after a measles outbreak began at Disneyland in December.
“The science is clear that vaccines dramatically protect children against a number of infectious and dangerous diseases,” Brown said while signing the bill Tuesday. “While it’s true that no medical intervention is without risk, the evidence shows that immunization powerfully benefits and protects the community.”
Carrey was still tweeting about it Wednesday morning: “All we are saying is, ‘Take the neurotoxins out of the vaccines.’ Make them toxin free. History will show that that was a reasonable request.”
