Kim Kardashian to Give Talk about Female Objectification in Media

Reality TV queen Kim Kardashian is set to give a talk about female objectification in the media later this month.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star and wife of rapper Kanye West will speak at Oakland’s Paramount Theatre on June 30 on a wide range of topics: female representation in media, her new selfie book, the “business of millennial culture,” and her experiences as part of one of the most famous families in America.

“Kim Kardashian West has taken everything that is modern-day society–from selfies to self-promotion to sexuality–embraced it, monetized it, and now we’re going to talk about it,” the event description reads.

Of course, Kardashian, 34, is uniquely qualified to discuss the objectification of women in the media; the reality starlet has tens of millions of followers across her social media accounts, and last year, she “broke the Internet” with a racy picture on the cover of Paper magazine. Dazed’s Helena Horton even suggests that Kardashian may be the perfect person to speak on the subject because “she’s completely in control of her own objectification.”

Tickets for the event range from $40 for nosebleeds to $300 for the VIP Party section. VIP Party ticket holders will get a copy of Kardashian’s selfie book Selfish, a chance to get the book autographed, and access to a cocktail reception.

Last week, Kardashian, who is expecting her second child with West, caused a stir when she appeared on the NPR game show Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me. Loyal listeners threatened to pull financial support from NPR for inviting her onto the program.
