Google recently added compatibility for 1080p/720p video streaming at 60 frames per second (FPS) to YouTube. Users can stream content at 60 FPS in Elgato Game Capture HD, XSplit Broadcaster, and XSplit Gamecaster, establishing YouTube as a viable alternative to Twitch for streaming video games.
YouTube’s HTML 5 gives the service an advantage over Twitch because of HTML 5’s greater compatibility than Twitch’s Flash with other devices, i.e. devices running Apple;s iOS. HTML 5 enables viewers to rewind streams and play the footage at 2x or 1.5x the speed. The platform also does not take up as much computer processing as does Flash.
In light of Twitch’s recent ban on adult-rated content streaming ahead of the release of developer Destructive Creations’ Hatred, Breitbart News asked YouTube if their service would also ban Adults Only-rated games. Mariana De Felice of YouTube’s Global Communications and Public Affairs wouldn’t commit to such a ban, stating instead that the site “prohibit[s] sexually explicit content and graphic or gratuitous violence… we count on our community members to know the Community Guidelines and to flag content they believe violates the rules.”
