Natalie Portman has signed on to play Jackie Kennedy in a new biopic, called Jackie, which follows the former First Lady the first four days after the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy in 1963, reports Variety.
The new film will be brought to the silver screen by Darren Aronofsky, who directed Portman in her Oscar-winning performance in Black Swan, and Pablo Larrain, who received an Oscar nomination for his film, No.
“Jackie talks about the days when Jackie Kennedy becomes an icon but has lost everything,” Wild Bunch’s Vincent Maraval, who is overseeing Insiders, told Variety.
Insiders is a new Los Angeles based startup that will be handling international sales for the new film.
The company has reportedly been shopping the script to buyers at Cannes Film Festival, where Portman is for her directorial debut of her new Hebrew-language film, A Tale of Love & Darkness.
Aronofsky was president of the Berlin festival jury this year and was impressed with Larrain’s Berlinale competition entry “The Club,” which won the festival’s grand jury prize. Portman caught “The Club” in Paris and loved it.
“It’s the Black Swan team reunited for Pablo Larrain,” Maraval said.
Breitbart News reported last week that Portman has also signed on to play feminist icon and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg in another biopic, titled On the Basis of Sex.
Entertainment Weekly reported production for On the Basis of Sex could start at the end of the year, which is also around the same time production for Jackie is scheduled to begin.
