Comedy Central’s Amy Schumer: Guns Still Easier To Get Than Birth Control

On April 21 Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer ran a parody ad in which Schumer complained that guns are easier to acquire than birth control pills.

The ad begins by pointing out that women are busy and do not have time to worry about their birth control pill.

The ad then ventures into the surreal in an attempt to show how hard getting a birth control pill can be:

Ask your doctor if birth control is right for you. Then, ask your boss if birth control is right for you. Ask your boss to ask his priest. Find a Boy Scout and see what he thinks. Tap a mailman on the shoulder. Tell him you didn’t mean to startle him. Then, ask him if birth control is right for you. Put it online and see how many likes it gets…

Newsbusters.org reports the ad continues by asking women to ask “[their] mom’s new boyfriend, then, ask the Supreme Court.” The ad depicts Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Scalia, Thomas, Alito, and Kennedy in spook hats, like old time Klansmen.

Then the ad comes comes full circle: “Finally, ask yourself, why do you insist on having sex for fun?”

Schumer then picks up her birth control from the pharmacist only to learn that she has to go through the who process again next month. Exacerbated, she takes her pills and walks out. Almost immediately thereafter a little boy walks up to the counter and asks, “Can I get a gun?”

The pharmacist answers in the affirmative and put a revolver on the counter for the boy to take.

Before the boy leaves the pharmacist says, “Remember, that’s your right.”
