One 13-year-old boy got a very special gift for becoming a man at his bar mitzvah in New York on Saturday–a visit and performance by rapper Nicki Minaj.
Minaj turned up at the swanky Pierre Hotel for the bar mitzvah of Matt Murstein, the teenage son of New York taxi magnate Andrew Murstein, where she performed seven of her hit songs (clean versions) and took pictures with the bar mitzvah boy’s grinning friends.

“Get an education, stay in school, and don’t be a slouch or a bum,” Minaj told the teenagers from the stage in a video posted to Twitter. “And ladies, never let a man have to take care of you, do you understand me? Be your own woman, be your own person.”
The singer posted a photo of her posing with the bar mitzvah guests on Instagram, captioning: “Get a load of these little hunks I met last night @ the Bar Mitzvah :0 they were very ummm turnT.”
Matt’s father Andrew is the founder and president of Medallion Financial Corp., which administers loans to New York taxicab drivers, according to Business Insider. The publicly traded company reportedly has a market cap of about $259 million.
Although the exact fee paid to Minaj was not disclosed, a Priceonomics report from last year placed the rapper’s private booking fee at somewhere between $200,000-$300,000.
At one point during the festivities, Minaj asked the group of teenagers how old they are. When she asked Matt, he replied “Old enough.”

Matt’s party got more star firepower than just a performance by Minaj; according to BI, the teenager’s bar mitzvah video was a spoof of LeBron James’ infamous “Decision” special, featuring Bob Costas. In the video, former NBA players Patrick Ewing and John Starks plead with Matt to join either the Charlotte Hornets or New York Knicks basketball teams, respectively. At the end of the video, Matt decides to stay in school. The teenager is reportedly a member of his school basketball team.
Other attendees at the bar mitzvah bash reportedly included New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Atlanta Braves legend Hank Aaron, Starks, and Universal Records President Monte Lipman.
