The idea of resisting fashion and gender norms is apparently not an issue for the children of the Smith family, as 16-year-old Jaden Smith was not only photographed wearing a skirt in public this week, but also seemed to be enjoying the fashion “fad” on social media.
Yes, the eldest child of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith is a “fashion-progressive” young man and enjoys the androgyny of his new digs. In a black and white sweater, with a black skirt over a pair of denims, Jaden finished dressing Thursday with a pair of leopard printed socks, to partner with a pair of men’s tennis shoes, per the Daily Mail.
Jaden also tweeted:
On a related note, Smith family friend, Alfonso Ribeiro as Carlton Banks, is no stranger to wearing feminine clothing either, as once demonstrated in an episode of his father’s former sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air:
Who wore it better?
Jaden and his younger sister Willow made headlines last November when, during an odd interview with T Magazine, the pair shared their thoughts on a variety of topics, including education.
The 16-year-old stated: “Here’s the deal, school is not authentic because it ends. It’s not true, it’s not real. Our learning will never end. The school that we go to every single morning, we will continue to go to.”
For her part, a 14-year-old Willow said, “I went to school for one year. It was the best experience but the worst experience. The best experience because I was, like, ‘Oh, now I know why kids are so depressed.’ But it was the worst experience because I was depressed.”
In January, Willow caused a stir on social media after she posted a photo to Instagram of her wearing a T-shirt with a pair of women’s breasts decorated across the front.
