With the help of former Today Show co-anchor Katie Couric, actress Michelle Pfeiffer is looking to nab her first starring TV role, in a series that will take a comedic look at a fictional morning news show.
Pfeiffer found major success as a leading lady in the 1980s, but has been rather inactive over the last decade and has appeared in only nine film projects since 2003.
Variety reports the proposed series, which is currently seeking a network to call home, would cast Pfeiffer as the lead.
The unnamed project is making the rounds this week to major networks such HBO, Showtime, and AMC, as well as streaming providers Netflix and Amazon, with Couric attached to the project as an executive producer.
The series would take a comedic look behind-the-scenes of a morning news show, and although the storylines won’t be drawn directly from Couric’s experiences, she will ensure the series is realistic, per Variety.
A source familiar with the proposals told the site both Pfeiffer and Couric are pitching alongside the show’s creator, Diane English, who created the CBS series Murphy Brown, which cast Candice Bergen as a news anchor from 1988-1998.
Couric spent 15 years on Today, before signing a deal to become the first woman to anchor CBS Evening News alone in 2006. She is currently serving as global news anchor for Yahoo.
