‘Mad Max’ to Make Comeback at Cannes Film Festival

Director George Miller’s fourth Mad Max film, starring Tom Hardy, will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival in France on May 14, a day ahead of its worldwide release, reports Yahoo News.

Mad Max: Fury Road is the first film in the post-apocalyptic dystopian series in 30 years, when Max Rockatansky, then portrayed by Mel Gibson, last left fans of the cult trilogy to wander the desert in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

The announcement marks the much-anticipated return of the Australian director, now 70, whose first film in the franchise became an instant blockbuster in 1979, when Mel Gibson captivated audiences as a rogue policemen on a quest to avenge the deaths of his partner, wife, and son.

Gibson went on to star in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior in 1981 and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome in 1985.

Also set in a post-apocalyptic Australia, Fury Road includes action-packed death matches, while Tom Hardy’s Max teams up with a mysterious woman, named Furiousa, (Charlize Theron) to try to survive.

The 68th Cannes Film Festival will be held between May 13 and 24.

Mad Max: Fury Road will make its U.S. debut on May 15.
