While awards season often ends with a race to the finish line for film nominees, action star Vin Diesel seems quite confident his upcoming film, Furious 7, will face no competition at the Oscars next February.

Skeptical? Have you seen a Fast & Furious film? The cars go fast. Really fast… some even have cool neon underglow.

As the film’s star and producer, it’s understandable why Diesel would be quick to politick for the latest sequel to the Fast & Furious series, a franchise that has undoubtedly been a financial success for both he and Universal Pictures, but Diesel waved the checkered flag altogether on Tuesday.

“Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie,” Diesel said during an interview with Variety. “It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don’t want to be relevant ever.”

According to Variety, Diesel then took a breath, before reiterating: “This will win best picture… There is nothing that will ever come close to the power of this thing.”

While Furious 7 will not debut in theaters nationwide until April 3, the film has been viewed favorably by those who have seen it early, and Diesel’s masterpiece is currently scoring an 88 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Still, others have labeled the F&F film, and previous sequels, as nothing more than a perennial cash cow for the studio. Beating a dead horse, so to speak.

Serendipitously for Vin, 1972’s The Godfather featured an ACTUAL dead horse. As most die-hard movie buffs know, that film went on to win awards for Best Picture, as well as Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.

Maybe Vin Diesel knows something the rest of us don’t.
