Actress Ashley Judd announced to NBC News Monday her plans to press charges against “Twitter trolls” who attacked her Sunday after she shared her opinions about a college basketball game on the site.

The Insurgent star attended the University of Kentucky game this past weekend, where she suggested to her followers she believed the rival team was “playing dirty.”

This reportedly led to a series of vulgar tweets and threats against Judd, most of which were too inappropriate for NBC News to broadcast. The tweets prompted the actress to take a stand against what she claims to be gender violence.

“When [sic] I express a stout opinion during #MarchMadness I am called a whore, c—, threatened with sexual violence. Not okay,” she wrote.

Judd also retweeted what she described as a “typical example” of cyber bullying in which a Twitter user told her to “go suck on Cal’s two inch d*ck ye Bitch whore.”

That statement is likely in reference to the good luck kiss she gave to former coach Dick Vitale, which was photographed and posted online. Users later slammed Judd for the photo all over social media.

“Everyone needs to take personal responsibility,” said Judd. “For what they write and not allowing this misinterpretation and shaming culture to persist. And by the way I’m pressing charges.”

Judd has since deleted her initial March Madness tweet and said she would have phrased it differently had she been in a “more calm state of mind.”

Judd also told NBC Tuesday that the amount of gender violence she endures online is extraordinary.
She describes her continued online abuse as so “explicit” and “overt” that she feels compelled to take a stand.

The actress doesn’t anticipate that anyone will be seriously prosecuted, but she does plan to send a strong message by filing the police reports.
