During an appearance on MSNBC’s NewsNation with Tamron Hall, Wu-Tang Clan rapper Method Man discussed Wednesday night’s shooting of two Ferguson, MO police officers, asserting that the officers had it coming.
Late Wednesday night, protesters gathered near the site of the Ferguson Police station after news broke that Police Chief Tom Jackson would resign.
Shortly thereafter, two Ferguson police officers were shot from an adjacent residential area in what is now described as an “ambush” attack.
Method Man told Hall of the shootings:
This thing that happened in Ferguson just now, with the two officers — sad, very sad. I hate to say that that FBI report kind of played into this. These things shouldn’t be happening, but you reap what you sow.
If that FBI report would’ve never came out and the scandal or [that police were] basically paying the city by giving people tickets, that’s incredibly insane.
We knew this already. This is common knowledge in the ghetto. Guys used to sit out and drink beer in public and stuff like that.
“It was no problem,” the rapper, legally named Clifford Smith, finished, saying law enforcement only become problematic when officers entered “the hood” in order to meet their ticket quotas. Both officers were released from the hospital early Thursday, and police are still searching for the shooter.
St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar told the Associated Press one officer was shot in the face, just below his right eye, with a bullet lodged behind his ear. The other officer was hit in the shoulder with an exit wound in his back.
Chief Tom Jackson’s resignation was preceded by that of City Manager John Shaw, who departed the office earlier this week.
