Will Ferrell is set to travel around the Cactus League by helicopter Thursday to “debut” as a ball player in every position in different games across the league.
The stunt will be part of a segment of Ferrell’s HBO special Funny Or Die.
Thus far it has been announced that he will be appearing during at least five games, including the Seattle Mariners at Oakland Athletics, the Chicago Cubs at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and Cincinnati Reds at Arizona Diamondbacks.
The stunt is similar to what the actor performed in 2010, most memorably as “Rojo Johnson,” who incited a faux brawl during the game.
The Saturday Night Live alumnus is no stranger to mixing sport and comedy. In addition to producing and playing a Ric Flair-inspired Ashley Schaeffer in HBO’s baseball-themed Eastbound & Down, Ferrell performed as the title character in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, starred in Blades of Glory, and performed as an aging player-coach in an ABA-style league in Semi-Pro.
