Johnny Depp Injured on ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Set

Actor Johnny Depp sustained an injury to his hand over the weekend on Australia’s Gold Coast, where he has been working on the production of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

While Depp was forced to return to the United States for surgery, a person close to the film’s production told TheWrap the actor was not on set or filming at the time of his injury, and production would only be “minimally impacted” while Depp was away for a period of two weeks.

No further details were released about the nature of the injury.

Production of the latest Pirates film was already disrupted earlier this week, when a man dressed as a pirate with a parrot on his shoulder stormed the set of the film and threatened a security guard with a knife before fleeing into the woods.

No injuries were reported in that incident, but the man was arrested Tuesday.

Despite the setbacks, a spokesperson for Disney told TheWrap the film’s release date remains unchanged: July 7, 2017.

The fifth in the Pirates franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales began filming in February and is scheduled to conclude some time this summer.

Also featuring Javier Bardem, Orlando Bloom, and Kaya Scodelario, the film will “thrust into an all-new adventure” to find a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow determined to kill every pirate at sea.

Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas, according to the film’s IMDB page.
