Chris Brown and his girlfriend, model Karrueche Tran, attended the Michael Costello fashion show Tuesday during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York donning matching fur coats, which, not surprisingly, didn’t sit well with PETA.
Costello, a noted fashion designer, was thrilled when Brown went backstage to meet him, and he posted this photo alongside the singer on Instagram:
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) soon got involved and told Gossip Cop: “There are few things more out of touch than draping yourself in the skins of animals who were beaten, electrocuted, and even skinned alive for their fur.”
PETA went on to cite pop singer Pink’s new 90-foot nude billboard in New York City’s Times Square as the pinnacle of fashion and kindness.
“Pink’s New York Fashion Week PETA billboard shows that true beauty comes from kindness—Chris Brown’s furs are just more of the same from him: ugly violence,” the group said.
Last week, PETA criticized professional celebrity Kim Kardashian and rapper Kanye West for dressing their daughter, North West, in fur during New York Fashion Week.
In January, the group went after former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin after she posted a photo online of her disabled son Trig standing atop his service dog, who was assisting the boy with family chores.
“Chill. At least Trig didn’t eat the dog,” Palin wrote in a Facebook post addressed to the group, a reference to President Obama’s admission that he ate dog meat as a child.
She continued: “Did you go as crazy when your heroic Man-of-Your-Lifetime, Barack Obama, revealed he actually enjoyed eating dead dog meat?
