On February 10, DKNY founder Donna Karan will join Michael Bloomberg, Gabby Giffords, Richard Martinez, and Everytown for Gun Safety for a gun control push that will be marked by the sale of custom bracelets bearing the message “Not One More.”
The gun control event will be held at Urban Zen.
Australian actor Hugh Jackman is also on board with the gun control message and “will be showing his support by posting an image of himself wearing one the [custom] bracelets via all avenues of his social media.”
Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) quotes Karan as saying:
Every problem has a solution and I believe the solution to our nation’s gun problem is to join all of our voices and talents together–from political leaders to gun violence survivors and the designers, musicians, actors, models, producers, directors and hoteliers who came together to launch the bracelet–and for each of us to use our influence to say loud and clear: Not One More.
The saying, “Not One More,” comes from Richard Martinez, “whose 20-year-old son, Christopher Ross Michaels-Martinez, was killed near UC Santa Barbara’s campus last May” even though his assailant–Elliot Rodger–went through background checks, registered his guns with the state, and complied with California’s “high capacity” magazine ban.
Despite the clear impotence of gun control in this instance, Martinez, Karan, Bloomberg, Giffords, and Jackman continue to point to gun control as the solution.
WWD reports that “a $30 version of the Haiti-made bracelet with a gold clasp will be sold at Urban Zen stores in Manhattan [and] Sag Arbor…as well as through its website and DKNY’s Madison Avenue store.” The bracelets will also be sold in Aspen, where Bloomberg recently suggested that young minority males should be banned from gun ownership.
