Alternative rock artist Beck took home the Album of the Year award at the 2015 Grammys, and as he accepted the accolade, a special guest joined him on stage: Kanye West, and he isn’t happy about it.
Beck seemed as surprised as anyone to be recognized for his work on the album “Morning Phase,” but humbly approached the stage as his peers, including Beyoncé, who was up for the same award, offered their congratulations.
As he was about to speak, rapper Kanye West approached the mic, as if he were about to say something, before pausing and returning to his seat.
West, who famously ruined Taylor Swift’s evening at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in order to defend Beyoncé, appeared to be only joking, and it appeared Beck may have been in on the gag. “Come on! Come back up!” he yelled.
However, after the show was over, Kanye spoke to E!, to let the world know it was no joke. He attacked the show’s organizers, as well as Beck for not giving the award to Beyoncé:
I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more.
Flawless Beyoncé video and Beck needs to respect artistry, and he should’ve given his award to Beyoncé.
We tired of it. When you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft, and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music – you’re disrespectful to inspiration.
