Hip hop mogul Marion “Suge” Knight was arrested and charged with murder early Friday morning following a fatal hit-and-run in Compton, California, where witnesses say he intentionally ran over two men after an argument.
The alleged incident happened around 3 p.m. Thursday, when Knight and two men began arguing on the set of a promotional spot for Straight Outta Compton, a biopic about the rap group N.W.A.
According to Capt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the two men were in the parking lot of a restaurant about 20 minutes after the dispute, when they again encountered Knight.
Knight reportedly followed the victims in a red truck, where Corina believes they were purposely run over. “The people we talked to say it looked like it was an intentional act,” Corina told the Los Angeles Times. “Looks like he drove backwards and struck the victims and drove forwards and struck them again.”
According to TMZ, the deceased victim was 55-year-old Terry Carter, a friend of Knight’s. Actor Cle “Bone” Sloan, 55, was also hit, but received undisclosed non-life threatening injuries.
Knight has been arrested on murder charges and his bail has been set at $2 million.
Originally known for founding Death Row Records, Knight was present for the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. He has since had many notable run-ins with law enforcement. For a full timeline of his legal and personal battles, click here.
