A man was stabbed Sunday night at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, the third such violent attack to occur there in 18 months.
According to the Los Angeles Times, an unidentified male victim was stabbed in the back around 9:15 p.m. at the intersection, a popular tourist spot in the heart of Hollywood. The man was immediately taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses told CBS Los Angeles that a man removed a glass bottle from a trash can and approached another man, who then stabbed him in the back using a small pocketknife.
The suspect, described by the Times as a man with tattoos on his neck, reportedly remains at large.
The intersection has seen an uptick in violence recently. On December 5, a man was shot and killed by police after he allegedly approached officers waving a knife. That shooting triggered protests associated with the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
In June 2013, 23-year-old Christina Calderon was stabbed to death by two men at the intersection. Calderon’s mother told CBS Los Angeles that her daughter was simply enjoying the scenery when she was killed.
“She did nothing wrong, she was taking pictures,” Yolande Tassin told KCAL-9. “She likes Hollywood.”
