Country music star Blake Shelton spoke with E Online Wednesday afternoon about a series of Twitter statements he made Monday regarding criticism of the film American Sniper, in which he admitted that he may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The artist and Oklahoma native was discussing his preparation for an upcoming Saturday Night Live gig, when he explained, “Sometimes I probably say things on [Twitter] I shouldn’t say. Just like last night, I had a few drinks and had to go off about a movie I want to see.”
Shelton also told E! he’s not too worried about public perception of his online activites.
“I don’t take myself that seriously, so I love to get on Twitter and have fun—and I think I make my managers a nervous wreck, but I feel like I’ve made it to this point, so what’s the worst that’s gonna happen?”
Shelton, along with country stars Craig Morgan and Charlie Daniels, jumped to the defense of the Clint Eastwood-directed Chris Kyle biopic, after Sicko director Michael Moore and comedian Seth Rogen dismissed the film and its subject.
“Sickens me to see celebrities or anybody slam the very people who protect their right to talk s—.. #truecowards,” Shelton tweeted. “Proud to support our military..Period.”
Rogen tweeted on Sunday: “American Sniper kind of reminds me of the movie that’s showing in the third act of Inglorious Basterds.”
Moore is also accused of attacking the film after he took to Twitter to say, “My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren’t heroes. And invaders r worse.”
