Canadian actor Seth Rogen denied that he compared the box-office blockbuster and creative masterpiece American Sniper to a fake Nazi propaganda film, claiming that when he said Clint Eastwood’s film “reminded” him of Nazi propaganda, he wasn’t equating the two.
On Sunday, Rogen sneered that Quentin Tarantino’s Nazi parody film “National Pride” in Inglourious Basterds resembled a patriotic film celebrating a warrior who devoted blood, sweat, and extraordinary marksmanship gifts to serving his country.
After Twitter users and critical media coverage condemned his comment, Rogen said he “actually liked” American Sniper, while still conceding that it reminded him of imaginary, extreme Nazi propaganda. What are you trying to say here, Seth?
In a subtweet to critical media sites–of whom Breitbart News was one of the most read–Rogen blamed the media for calling attention to his remarks.
It’s noteworthy that Rogen spat in the faces of the very audiences who rallied behind him after Sony cancelled the theatrical release of his movie, The Interview, in the face of threats allegedly from North Korea. His Nazi comparison tweet is rubbing salt in the wound: American audiences already suffered for supporting his latest film.
