College Dropout Gwyneth Paltrow Nixed for Yahoo Job for Lack of Education

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow failed to qualify for a job at Yahoo because she reportedly didn’t meet the educational requirements.

Paltrow, who authored a best-selling cookbook and founded the online lifestyle publication GOOP, was up for consideration as a contributing editor for Yahoo Food, according to The New York Times.

That was until Yahoo CEO and former Google executive Marissa Mayer disapproved because of “the fact that Paltrow did not graduate college,” and quashed the idea.

Paltrow studied Art History, briefly, at the University of California, Santa Barbara, but dropped out of school to pursue a career in entertainment.

Yahoo hired Mayer in the summer of 2012, after she left Google, to turn the company around. She has launched several initiatives since her appointment, which include courting celebrities and TV journalists such as Katie Couric. Hiring Paltrow was part of the strategy to produce top-tier video content and new digital magazines.

In what was a tumultuous start to Paltrow’s 2014-holiday season, her GOOP gift guide was released in November to heavy criticism. The actress released a list of items she recommended as holiday gifts. Critics blasted her for suggesting items that many in the working class couldn’t realistically afford.

The actress also made news in October when she hosted a fundraiser for President Obama at her Brentwood, California estate. Paltrow was lambasted for statements she made about President Obama’s congressional hurdles.

It was there that she told attendees that “It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things he needs to pass.”
