On The Tonight Show Monday, host Jimmy Fallon congratulated country superstar Carrie Underwood on her “little baby on its way.” Underwood said that she sings for her baby and does her best to always sing well, because “he’s listening.” Watch:

The American Idol winner and her NHL-star husband, Mike Fisher, announced their pregnancy via Instagram on September 1 and expect their first baby’s arrival in the spring.

Fallon talked with Underwood about singing with her husband during the holidays and asked: “Are you singing for the baby?” “Yes,” she responded. “I feel like he hears me singing whether he would like that or not. I mean, that’s what I do. He doesn’t have a choice.”

“If I’m just in my car, driving, I feel like I have to make it good because,” she continued in a whisper, “he’s listening. He’s always in there.” The six-time Grammy winner explained, “I just want to do a good job for him.”

The abortion-sympathetic media reported on the news, but most carefully avoided speaking of the “baby” in their titles. Us Weekly said that Underwood is giving performances to her “Pregnant Belly,” and E! Online says she is singing to her “Baby Bump.” People Magazine, on the other hand, announced that Underwood “Gives Her Unborn Baby Private Concerts.”

Underwood and her husband have tried to keep faith at the center of their life, even when it comes to family planning. Underwood told Nashville’s Tennessean newspaper that the couple did not plan her pregnancy, preferring to “just let God handle” when that would happen.

Underwood spoke more about her baby on Today with hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb on December 9. “Definitely my body’s not mine right now!” she said.

The star made big headlines last year after mocking Obamacare at the 2013 Country Music Association Awards show.
