Last week’s boxing match between 62-year-old actor Mickey Rourke and 29-year-old professional boxer Elliott Seymour is now reported to have been staged.
Rourke, who sparred with Seymour for two rounds, won the fight in the second after taking his opponent to the canvas twice.
Now, his opponent is said to have been a homeless drifter paid by Rourke to fly to Russia to make the actor look good, according to the Daily Mail.
Seymour, a homeless man who has been sleeping in Pasadena’s Memorial Park, had a professional boxing career of 1-9 before his match with Rourke in Russia.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, a source close to Seymour’s family, said:
It was clearly a fixed fight. The whole bouncing off the ropes, hands down, punches were not landing and they were intentionally hitting each other’s gloves.
There are people at Wild Card gym who know that Elliot’s in a really terrible situation and pretty much living on the streets, these are Mickey Rourke’s people who Elliot’s been around and known for some time.
I’d be surprised if they didn’t know something about his situation but they have decided to put him in the ring against Mickey Rourke.
The anonymous source is reported to have spoken out about the match because they were worried Seymour was exploited by the the fight’s organizers.
