21st Century Fox CEO and international media magnate Rupert Murdoch took to Twitter Saturday to defend his studio’s casting choices for the upcoming biblical film Exodus: Gods and Kings, after critics chastised its Caucasian line-up.
20th Century Fox, a subsidiary of Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox, is the studio behind the production of Exodus, which stars Christian Bale as the lead.
The casting of Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as his stepbrother, Ramses, sparked some controversy online.
Murdoch took to his Twitter page to defend the film’s portrayal of the characters:
Moses film attacked on Twitter for all white cast. Since when are Egyptians not white? All I know are.

Everybody-attacks last tweet. Of course Egyptians are Middle Eastern, but far from black. They treated blacks as slaves.

Okay, there are many shades of color. Nothing racist about that, so calm down!

After the brief engagement with his followers, Murdoch sent out one final tweet:
Change the subject. What chance more decent jobs as Europe, Japan, Russia, India, China all start to head south? Dangerous time.
