Johnny Depp Finds Liberation in Not Caring About Box Office Failures: I Just Don’t Give a F*ck

Legendary actor Johnny Depp, who is undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s A-list, has reportedly grown apathetic about critics of his latest films and has a message for them in a new interview with Details Magazine.

Depp, who has had several films flop in recent years, including The Lone Ranger, Transcendence, and The Tourist, gave some insight into his perspective on all of the criticism of his latest role choices. 

“As Marlon once so beautifully f*cking said to me, life is a birdsong. That’s stuck with me,” he told Details, quoting his mentor, legendary actor Marlon Brando. “What is really satisfying is, like Marlon, getting to that place where he just didn’t give a f*ck.” 

Depp, who turned 51 this year, has found that special place.

“First, I reached a point where I cared so much and was so diligent in terms of approaching the work,” he explained, via ET. “Then you get to where you care so f*cking much that it gets goddamn beleaguering, you know? But then a great thing happens. Suddenly you care enough to not give a f*ck, because not giving a f*ck, that’s the total liberation. Being game to try anything.”

The actor made news this month when he appeared heavily intoxicated at the Hollywood Film Awards. 

Depp, who was presenting an award for the documentary of Mike Myers’ Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon, slurred his words heavily during the presentation, and eventually navigated his way back off the stage.

The former Gilbert Grape and Hunter S. Thompson character has a considerable body of work to fall back on, and has apparently built up enough equity with fans, and himself, to deserve a break as he expands his creative horizons.
