Victoria’s Secret model Sara Sampaio hit back at “skinny-shaming” critics last week on Instagram, after saying she receives constant criticism about being too skinny.
But in another video posted to her Instagram just days later, Sampaio describes being jealous of fellow model Candice Swanepoel’s body, in what some are calling a contradiction of her original message.
“I’m proud of my body and I’m not gonna let any of you bully me just because I’m skinny!” Sampaio originally wrote in her Instagram post last week. “Every body is different, and every metabolism is different! I eat a lot, so next time u decide to tell me to eat a burger remember I eat probably eat more burgers than you, I’ve always been skinnier, and probably will always be, I workout, I’m healthy and I’m happy!”
“Be happy with ur body and stop shaming others!” Sampaio concluded her lengthy post. “Whether they are skinny, fat, fit, with big boobs, small boobs etc! Don’t share hate! Be happy.”
Just two days later, as E! Online noticed, Sampaio appeared in an official Victoria’s Secret promotional video, posted to her Instagram page, in which she said that she can never achieve model Candice Swanepoel’s “amazing” body, even though she’d like to.
“If I put a picture of Candice, and I’m like, I wanna have that body, not in a million years I’m gonna have that body, ’cause my bone structure is not built like her amazing…” Sampaio said before the video abruptly cuts off.
Erin Gloria Ryan of Jezebel posted the video to the site, with the headline, “Helpful Victoria’s Secret Reminder: Even Models Hate Themselves.” Sampaio promptly blasted Ryan on her Facebook page.
“The title of your article state that i hate myself,” Sampaio wrote. “To the contrary i love myself like i am… As women, we need to stand together, we are judged and objectified enough by men. Here is to your feminism.”
According to the Daily Mail, Sampaio shrugged off her tough week on social media with a day at the beach on St. Barths Monday, where she frolicked in the sand and took a series of “shameless selfies” in response to the “haters.”
