A 1969 audiotape of legendary comedian Bill Cosby cracking jokes about drugging women with something called “Spanish Fly” has surfaced.
Cosby, who has recently been under fire for allegations that he drugged and raped multiple women, can be heard in the audio describing the moment he first learned of the aphrodisiac at 13-years-old.
In the three-minute clip, the comedian mentions a woman named “Crazy Mary” and jokes about slipping the wonder drug into her drink.
“From then on, anytime you see a girl, ‘Wish I had some Spanish fly,’” Cosby says in the routine, via Village Voice. “Go to a party, see five girls standing alone. Boy, if I had a whole jug of Spanish fly I’d light that corner up over there. Haaa ha ha.”
Comedian Hannibal Buress brought allegations of rape against Cosby back to the forefront during a recent set in Philadelphia. Two women have since come forward alleging that Cosby drugged and raped them several decades ago.
Joan Tarshis is the most recent alleged victim to accuse Cosby of sexual assault. She reported that the attacks took place the same year in which Cosby referenced “Spanish Fly” during the resurfaced audio recording.
