The Hollywood Film Awards, televised live for the first time Friday night, got its first ever highlight reel clip when an apparently drunk Johnny Depp sauntered up to the microphone and delivered a slurry, curse-filled award presentation speech for the best documentary category.
Depp was on stage to present the best documentary award to Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon, Mike Myers’ film about the legendary music industry heavyweight, according to E! Online.
“That’s the weirdest microphone I’ve ever seen in my life,” an unsteady Depp said as he got started.
“I’m not very good at this kinda thing,” he continued, then broadcaster CBS edited out some swear words, after which Depp laughed.
“Watch, I’m gonna read this thing,” Depp plodded on, looking up at the teleprompter. “For decades, Shep Gordon has been one of the most beloved and respected talent managers in the music industry. He is also currently the star and subject of the documentary Supermensch, ’cause he is a mensch, and I have been very uh, lucky to have him in my life, he’s someone I consider a great f-friend, somebody, uhh, yeah, an incredibly uh, loyal, loyal friend, and so uh… you have to watch the film. Yeah, there you go.”
While he was talking, most of the audience, including Gordon, was laughing.

Other award winners at the show included Benedict Cumberbatch for Best Actor, Julianne Moore for Best Actress, and Michael Keaton for the Career Achievement Award. Gone Girl picked up the award for Best Film.
