Jennifer Lawrence Sounds Off on Social Media: 'The Internet Has Scorned Me'

Jennifer Lawrence explained to BBC Radio recently why she will never join social media.

Besides being one of the primary targets in the celebrity nude photo scandal in August, which Lawrence later referred to as a sex crime, the 24-year-old actress is reportedly technologically challenged, too.

“I will never get Twitter,” she said in response to a fan inquiry. “I’m not very good on phones or technology. I cannot really keep up with emails, so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me… I don’t really understand what it is. It’s like this weird enigma that people talk about.”

Lawrence said she respects the idea of Twitter, but will never be one to use it. She also informed listeners that there may be social media accounts out there with her name attached to them, but they are most definitely not hers.

“I had that one locked and loaded,” she laughed of her premeditated answer. “I really like laser focused… it’s because the internet has scorned me so much that I feel like it’s that girl in high school that I’m like, ‘Oh you want to talk about her? Yeah I’ll do that!’ Take my hoops off, I’m ready to go.”

In August, Lawrence was one of more than 100 celebrities who had explicit images hijacked from her iPhone and leaked to the public. Her photos, as well as a sex tape, were in widespread circulation.

It took her several weeks, but she finally responded to the controversy in the November issue of Vanity Fair.

“Just because I’m a public figure, just because I’m an actress, does not mean that I asked for this,” she said to the publication. “It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It’s my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe that we even live in that kind of world. ”

Lawrence went on to explain that time heals all, and she had to find a way to make peace with the situation.

She appears to be doing much better, judging from this interview, but still doesn’t trust the internet.
