The White House kicked off the Veteran’s Day celebrations early this year.
This past Thursday, several distinguished musical guests were invited to the capitol to perform for hundreds of United States service men and women as a way to honor the sacrifices they have made for our great nation.
Among the group of performers were country singer Willie Nelson, Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty, and hip-hop queen Mary J. Blige to name a few.
Obama explained how the diverse genres of music were “fitting because here in America, no matter where you’re from, no matter what music you listen to, we’re all united in our respect and admiration for our brave men and women who wear our country’s uniform.”
According to this Youtube video, via Consequence of Sound, Obama was invited onstage by Willie Nelson during the encore in which they would serenade the audience with Nelson’s 1980 hit “On the Road Again.”
“Willie says I’m gonna have to sing with him, so I’ll try it out,” President Obama informed the audience.
