Jon Lovett, Hollywood screenwriter and former speechwriter for President Obama, has teamed up with Showtime for a new political drama titled Anthem revolving around the nation’s flawed political system.
The contemporary series paints a picture of a country spiraling out of control due to the lack of bipartisanship and the collapse of political institutions. This has the nation on the verge of a civil war.
According to Variety, Lovett, also the creator of the NBC White House Comedy series 1600 Penn, will write and executive producer the project with Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
Koppelman and Levien are also developing a finance-themed series through Showtime with New York Times columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin.
Prior to his gig in Hollywood, Lovett worked alongside President Obama as his speechwriter for three years and aided former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during her 2008 presidential campaign.
Anthem was reportedly pitched to several networks prior to landing at Showtime.
