In 2005, English singer James Blunt serenaded the world with his classic love ballad “You’re Beautiful,” and it quickly became the most successful single release of his entire career.
Blunt, who has since had many years to recover and even released a new album recently, has apologized to Hello Magazine for the enticing lyrics behind “You’re Beautiful” that apparently affected him as an artist.
“There was one song that was force-fed down people’s throats – You’re Beautiful – and it became annoying,” Blunt said. “And then people start to associate the artist with the same word.
The musician also revealed the way he was marketed by his record company was a fallacy.
I think, at the end of the day, I was marketed by a record company to appeal to women during Desperate Housewives’ commercials, and you lose 50 percent of the population in doing so.
The marketing also painted me out as an insanely serious person, an earnest person and, as all my friends know, I’m anything but. I have a couple of over-emotional miserable songs that I’m known for, but I think it’s turned that corner now. People can see I don’t take myself that seriously.
Blunt said he took a different approach to marketing his fourth studio album called Moon Landing. The record includes tracks such as “When I Find Love Again,” “Trail of Broken Hearts,” and “Working It Out.”
