Orlando Jones: 'Reverse the Hate' Ice Bucket Challenge with Bullet Casings

Orlando Jones, lifetime NRA member and active member of the Louisiana state police force, completed the ALS Ice Bucket challenge with bullet casings instead of ice.

The actor is reportedly on a mission to bring attention to 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri on Aug. 9.

“Every shell casing in that bucket represents the life of someone who fought and died in the goal for civil rights and human dignity,” he declared

Jones turned to YouTube to not only complete the challenge for ALS, but to express his unease with the shooting in Ferguson, a phenomenon that he described as an “us versus them” mentality existing between police forces and residents.

“I’m not pointing fingers at anyone but myself,” he said in the video. “I am asking something very hard of myself, I’m challenging myself to listen without prejudice, love without limits, and reverse the hate.”

Jones also initiated a social media campaign using the “hashtags” “#JUSTICEFORMICHAELBROWN” and “#REVERSETHEHATE“.

MSNBC brought him on air this morning to discuss his plans to fight apathy and encourage others to “love without hate.”

“I didn’t say anything because I was being apathetic, so my challenge was meant to bring awareness to the disease of apathy –but gun violence is one of the symptoms.” he told Buzzfeed.

The actor confirmed that he did make his $100 contribution to the ALS charity following the viral videos release.
