Jesse Helt, the 22-year-old homeless advocate who spoke of the plight of the homeless while accepting an MTV Video Music Award for Miley Cyrus Monday night, is wanted in Oregon for a probation violation regarding a 2010 drug-related robbery. Helt was also Cyrus’s date for the night.

He was arrested in October 2010 and told the officer that he and a friend tried to break into an apartment because the man who rented it had sold them bad marijuana, according to an affidavit.

The 22-year-old pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and criminal mischief, both misdemeanors, a month later, said Jon Troike, a senior judicial services specialist for Polk County, Oregon. Helt spent at least three weeks in jail and was sentenced to probation and drug treatment.

This is Helt’s third probation violation. So far Helt has avoided prison, but a county official says that’s what awaits him if he’s picked up.

During his acceptance speech before the nation, Helt told us that he had “survived in shelters all over. I’ve cleaned your hotel rooms. I’ve been an extra in your movies. I’ve been an extra in your life.”

He failed to mention he’s been the guy who breaks into your apartment after you sell him bad marijuana.
