With first-person shooter Destiny less than a month away from release, a new trailer was released Monday showcasing gameplay from the game’s Venus level.
Destiny is the latest sci-fi first-person shooter from developer Bungie, the creators of the Halo franchise, in their first game distributed by Activision, the largest video game publisher in the world, since the studio split from Microsoft in 2010. Destiny is one of the most-anticipated releases of the year, with a reported $500 million budget behind the new IP and expectations running high for the start of a new gaming franchise from the creators of the Halo series.
In Destiny, players take on the role of Guardians, protectors of the last human city on Earth bestowed with magical abilities by The Traveler, a mysterious extra-terrestial orb hovering above the planet’s surface. Players will both protect Earth and travel to the moon, Venus, and Mars as they fight powerful alien invaders who have driven humanity to the brink of extinction.
The trailer showcases both large outdoor environments with plenty of room for players to utilize personal vehicles while traversing Venus’s surface and dark, moody interiors of abandoned structures and caves. A battle with a large boss is also on display as Guardians confront the Vex, hostile alien androids.
Last week at Gamescom, Activision also released a trailer revealing players fighting the Cabal, a faction of heavily armored alien soldiers, on the desolate surface of the planet Mars.
Destiny will be released on September 9, 2014 on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
