Tina Fey Produced Comedy Won't Make Fox's Schedule

Looks like Fox won’t be bringing Tina Fey’s latest comedy into living rooms nationwide.

Variety reports that the network is passing on Cabot College, a show co-produced by Fey set in college.

Project from Universal TV had received a series commitment from Fox but never got a formal greenlight for production after the pilot was shot last spring. Matt Hubbard, another “30 Rock” alum, penned the script set at a women’s college that begins accepting men for the first time.

Asif Ali, Margaret Cho, Jack Cutmore-Scott and Bonnie Dennison toplined the pilot. It’s unclear if Universal TV plans to shop the project to other outlets.

Fey remains a darling of the entertainment press, receiving the same fawning coverage typically reserved for HBO star Lena Dunham of Girls fame. Blame the Sarah Palin impression Fey honed during her time on Saturday Night Live.

Yet Fey isn’t an easy sell with the public.

Her 30 Rock sitcom struggled on NBC for several season, collecting critical accolades but a modest audience at best. On the big screen, her 2013 comedy Admission bombed, while her presence couldn’t stop Muppets Most Wanted from an underwhelming box office take.
