Who you gonna call? Melissa McCarthy?

Hollywood’s attempt to reboot the Ghostbusters franchise enters a new phase, one that may open the door for a decidedly different group of heroes.

Or should we say heroines?

The Hollywood Reporter says the project is now seeking female Ghostbusters to carry the legacy started by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and the late Harold Ramis.

Director Paul Feig of Bridesmaids fame is being discussed to join the project. Feig isn’t officially on board yet, but his strong track record and ties to hit-maker McCarthy sure make sense.

Will a female-led reboot make it more or less likely to see Murray back in a cameo role? The bigger question remains. Do movie goers still care about a franchise that can’t seem to get restarted at a time when nearly every ’80s era franchise is enjoying a reboot?

Either way, it’s a sign Hollywood is taking women-led projects more seriously.
